Zygoma implants: crossing borders ?

Dr. Luc Vrielinck, Dr. Milda Vitosyte, Prof. Dr. Constantinus Politis

ABSTRACT:

Zygoma implants have played a crucial role in the treatment of bone deficiency in the dorsal and lateral parts of the upper jaw for a long time. As implantology has progressed, the application possibilities of zygoma implants have evolved into a comprehensive treatment technique for patients with severe atrophy of the entire upper jaw.

In this lecture, we will study the development of this implant technique and discuss its integration with contemporary treatment principles such as one-stage procedures and less invasive surgical techniques. We will map the evolution of the original Brånemark-style zygoma implant technique to the current Quad Zygoma technique.

Additionally, we will discuss the pros and cons of both techniques, as well as their distinct complications and long-term results based on our years of experience with both techniques.
