Het 14de Congres BVOI brengt een aantal gerenommeerde sprekers op het podium:

Johan Abeloos

Dr. Johan Abeloos
AZ Sint-Jan, Brugge

Dr Johan Abeloos received his medical and dental degrees at the Catholic University Louvain, Belgium in 1983 and 1986 respectively. His training in Maxillo-Facial Surgery was fulfilled at the Catholic University Louvain, the Albert-Ludwig University of Freiburg, Germany and the General Hospital AZ St. Jan in Bruges, Belgium from 1985 until 1989.

Then, he became fellow at the Harvard Children’s Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA. Further fellowships were in Paris, France and Lausanne, Switzerland in 1990.

He became Dr Med Dent at the Albert-Ludwig University in Freiburg, Germany in 1990. In 1996, he attained the European Board Certification in Maxillo-Facial Surgery.

He is a Maxillo-Facial surgeon consultant at the department of Maxillo-Facial Surgery of AZ St. Jan in Bruges, Belgium. Special fields of interest are orthognathic surgery, head and neck surgery, and reconstructive surgery, and pre-prosthetic surgery.

Deeltijds wetenschappelijk medewerker aan de afdeling Prothetische Tandheelkunde KU Leuven (1994-2000).
Medeverantwoordelijk voor de opleiding in de Prothetische Tandheelkunde in het Stagecentrum Tandheelkunde van het AZ St-Jan Brugge.

Daarnaast werkzaam in eigen praktijk te Brugge. Voorzitter PUC West-Vlaanderen en Ondervoorzitter LUTV. Gewezen voorzitter van de VAPR (Vereniging Assistenten Prothetische en Restauratieve Tandheelkunde KU Leuven).

Bestuurslid Digital Dentistry Belgium. Lesgever voor het Instituut voor Osseointegratie (sinds 2001). Gastdocent aan KU Leuven (sinds 2018).

Thomas Maal

Thomas Maal (Rotterdam, 1981) is an expert in applying the latest 3D technologies in healthcare. The new possibilities of this technology, such as patient-specific virtual operation schedules and 3D-printed anatomical models, ensure that the care and treatment plan can be tailored to the wishes and situation of the patient.

Prof. Maal started in 2005 with the application of 3D photography at Radboud University Medical Center and has been a staff member and coordinator of the 3D Lab since 2012. In 2013 he also became coordinator of the 3D Lab at AMC Amsterdam.

Thomas Maal received his Master Biomedical Image Sciences at Utrecht University in 2006. In 2012 he obtained his PhD with honours - in the field of medical sciences at Radboud University.

Maurice Mommaerts

Professor Maurice Mommaerts received his postgraduate surgical training and education in Zürich, Switzerland (for cranio-maxillo-facial surgery), in Leuven, Belgium (for head and neck surgery and oro-maxillo-facial surgery), in Miami, Florida (for plastic surgery) and in Nancy, France (for maxillo-facial and plastic facial surgery).

He obtained a doctoral degree in medicine from the Catholic University of Leuven in 1984 (MD), a doctoral degree from the University of Zürich in 1990, and a doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Ghent in 2003.

With the face as his domain, he divides his interests between patient specific implant surgery (TMJ total joint replacement, AMSJI, facial contouring implants), cosmetic rejuvenation surgery, surgical correction of congenital abnormalities (such as cleft & craniofacial surgery), transgender surgery, the surgical correction of developmental facial abnormalities (orthognathic-orthofacial surgery).

Luc Vrielinck

Dr. Luc Vrielinck
ZOL Genk

Dr. Luc Vrielinck attended the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, School of Dentistry in Belgium where he was trained as a dentist and as a maxillofacial surgeon. In 1989, he started a private practice in Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg in Genk.

Since 1999, he has been working extensively with computer-based implant planning systems. This results in the use of several drill guide systems and navigation systems for implant placement. His special field of interest is the atrophic maxilla and treatment with zygomatic and pterygoid implants.

Dr. Vrielinckck has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles on the subject of guided implant placement. He is also conducting zygoma implant courses on a regular basis.
